Here’s a definition of satire for those who are clearly uninformed: A literary technique of writing or art which principally ridicules its subject often as an intended means of provoking or preventing change; exposing human folly to ridicule.

It bothers me that people are acting like Seth MacFarlane is some kind of racist/anti-semite/homophobe. He’s a writer who clearly enjoys social satire, which is all Family Guy is. And for that matter, it’s not about how far the show actually take things, it’s about how seriously its viewers take the jokes and the sarcasm. Like the Road To Germany episode where Stewie put on a Nazi uniform to disguise himself as Hitler and found a Palin/McCain button on it (and in that respect, jokes about Hitler can be funny, jokes about the holocaust cannot).

Lampooning current events is a popular thing to do. Don’t tell me you don’t look at racist people and laugh at them because they are so goddamn stupid. That’s the whole point of the show: making jokes about people who are stupid. Exposing human folly to ridicule. It’s less about the things the show portrays (racism, homophobia, etc.) and more about why they portray them - calling out people who are actually that way and laughing at them.

Furthermore, the fact that people complain about this show so much completely baffles me. Especially parents. You have control over what your children watch. Sure, the show has a primetime spot and yes, kids are attracted because it’s animated, but you control what they watch until they are old enough. And I don’t want to hear the “I’m at work” excuse either, because there are such things as parental controls and telling whoever is watching your children that it’s not acceptable for them to watch such shows.

Just shut the hell up and quit whining and learn about sarcasm and satire.
